Driving Test Preparationin North London

Auto-Drive Driving School prepares learners for the practical driving test across Camden, North and Central London, with practice on local test routes and mock tests.

About our driving test preparation

We have deep knowledge of local roads, test routes, and test centres. Test preparation lessons use that knowledge to make sure nothing on test day comes as a surprise: the roads around the centre, the junctions examiners often use, and the way the test itself runs.

They suit learners who already drive well and have a test booked, learners taking a few lessons in their test area before the day, and learners who have taken a test before and want to put right whatever went wrong.

Much of test preparation is about the test itself as well as the driving: the eyesight check, the show me, tell me questions, the manoeuvre, independent driving following a sat nav or signs, and the habit of driving to a steady, safe standard for the whole drive rather than a perfect one for ten minutes.

What’s included

Every lesson is one to one, in the car you will learn and can take your test in.

  • Practice on roads around your test centre
  • Mock tests in test conditions, with a full debrief
  • Show me, tell me questions
  • The reversing manoeuvres you could be asked to do
  • Independent driving following a sat nav or road signs
  • A dual-control automatic car you can also take your test in

What to plan before you book

  • Book your test

You book your practical test with the DVSA on GOV.UK once you have passed your theory test. Tell us your test centre and date.

  • Leave time to prepare

Book enough lessons before the test to cover the test routes and at least one mock test.

  • Check what to bring

On the day you need your provisional licence and your theory test pass certificate number, and you will be asked to read a number plate from 20 metres.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us your test details

Call 07572 923950 or send the contact form with your test centre, date and experience.

  2. 2

    Assess your driving

We drive the routes around your test centre and see what needs polishing.

  3. 3

    Mock test

A full mock test in test conditions, then a debrief on any faults.

  4. 4

    Test day

A warm-up lesson before the test, then you take your test in the car you know.

Good to know

  • How the test runs

The practical test lasts around 40 minutes, including about 20 minutes of independent driving, one reversing manoeuvre and two vehicle safety questions.

  • Minors and majors

You can pass with up to 15 driving faults (minors). One serious or dangerous fault (a major) means you do not pass.

  • Use the instructor’s car

Taking your test in the car you learned in means familiar controls, dual controls and a car that meets test rules.

  • Your instructor can sit in

You can ask for your instructor to sit in on the test and listen to the feedback at the end.

  • Moving your test

From 9 June 2026, if you change a car driving test you can keep the same centre, move to one of the 3 test centres nearest to it, or go back to the centre you first booked at.

What learners say

  • Amaazinngg instructor Taj. Took 3 lessons with Taj in my test area and passed. He makes sure you’re comfortable and cares to make sure you’re at your best for your test day regardless of how many lessons you can fit in.

Nishat Khan 2026 · Google review · Holborn School of Motoring

  • Taj […] is an excellent instructor with decades of experience. He is super patient, has good tips on memorizing some driving skills and knows the exact test routes. Thanks Taj!

Alexandra Popova 2026 · Google review · Holborn School of Motoring

Taj taught with Holborn School of Motoring before starting Auto-Drive. Reviews marked Holborn were first posted on Google for that school; words in [square brackets] are ours, and … marks words left out.

Driving Test Preparation: your questions answered

Still have a question?

Call us for a quick chat. We'll guide you every step of the way.

Can I just take a few lessons before my test?

Yes. If you already drive well, a few lessons in your test area can help you prepare for test day.

Can I use your car for my driving test?

Ask us when you book. Taking your test in the car you learned in is common, and it is the dual-control automatic you will have practised in.

What is a mock test?

A drive that follows the format of the real test, with faults marked the same way, so you know where you stand before the day.

How long is the practical driving test?

Around 40 minutes, including about 20 minutes of independent driving.

I failed my last test. Can you help?

Yes. Bring your test report and we will focus on the faults that came up, as well as anything else that needs work.
