Refresher Driving Lessonsin London

Auto-Drive Driving School gives refresher driving lessons in an automatic car across Camden, North and Central London, for full licence holders getting back on the road.

About our refresher driving lessons

If you hold a full licence but haven't driven in a while whether due to a life change, a period abroad, or simply a loss of confidence, our refresher lessons will help you get back on the road safely. We'll assess where you are and focus on exactly what you need.

Ideal for: Licence holders returning to driving after a gap, or anyone wanting to rebuild confidence.

Coming back to driving after years away is common, and so is feeling rusty. London roads change: new cycle lanes, bus gates, low traffic neighbourhoods, 20 mph limits and the ULEZ and Congestion Charge zones. A refresher puts all of that in context in a calm car with dual controls, so you can practise the parts that worry you without pressure.

Refresher lessons are not a test. There is no pass or fail, just as many or as few lessons as you need to feel safe and confident on your own again.

What’s included

Every lesson is one to one, in the car you will learn and can take your test in.

  • An assessment drive to see where you are
  • Lessons focused on exactly what you want to work on
  • A fully insured dual-control automatic car
  • Busy junctions, roundabouts and lane changes
  • Parking and manoeuvres in tight London streets
  • Updates on road rules and Highway Code changes
  • Routes you will actually drive, such as the commute or the school run

What to plan before you book

  • Check your licence

Make sure your licence is valid and your photocard is in date: a photocard needs renewing every 10 years.

  • Overseas licence?

If you learned abroad, check on GOV.UK whether you can drive in the UK on your licence or need to exchange it or take a test here.

  • Think about your goals

Is it motorways, central London, parking or just getting your nerve back? Telling us first lets us use the time well.

  • Read the Highway Code

The Highway Code was updated in 2022 with a hierarchy of road users and new rules at junctions. A quick read before your first lesson helps.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us your story

Call 07572 923950 or send the contact form: how long since you drove and what you want to work on.

  2. 2

    Assessment drive

We start somewhere quiet and see where you are, then agree what to focus on.

  3. 3

    Focused lessons

We work on exactly what you need, building up to busier roads at your pace.

  4. 4

    Back on your own

When you feel ready, you are back on the road with your confidence restored.

Good to know

  • Automatic only

We teach in an automatic car. If your licence covers manual cars it also covers automatics.

  • Your own car

If you will be driving your own car afterwards, ask us whether some practice in it would help once you feel confident.

  • Insurance

When you start driving again on your own, tell your insurer about any change in circumstances they ask about.

  • Clean air zones

Check whether your car meets the ULEZ standards before driving in London, and whether the Congestion Charge applies to your route.

What learners say

  • Taj is brilliant. I’ve driven in the US and needed to get my license in the UK. Taj took me through all the major rule differences and got me comfortable driving in the UK. I was able to pass my test on the first try thanks to him!

Refresher Driving Lessons: your questions answered

Still have a question?

Call us for a quick chat. We'll guide you every step of the way.

How many refresher lessons will I need?

There is no set number. We'll assess where you are and focus on exactly what you need, and many drivers know after a lesson or two how many more they want.

I passed my test in a manual. Can I take refresher lessons in your automatic?

Yes. A manual licence covers automatic cars, and many returning drivers find an automatic easier while they rebuild confidence.

I haven’t driven for many years. Is that too long?

No. Refresher lessons are ideal for licence holders returning to driving after a gap, however long it has been.

Can we practise a specific route?

Yes. If there is a journey you need to make, such as your commute, we can include it in your lessons.

How much do refresher lessons cost?

Refresher lessons are £40/hr, the same as our standard lessons.
